I recently completed my MC truck licence with Shane and the training and service was second to none.
Two full days of driving and then the test and passed with flying colours. Fast processing of my statement of attainment being sent to me the next day.
I highly recommend The driving school if you are looking at obtaining or upgrading your truck licence.

Our MC licence course is delivered on behalf of Raise Training (RTO 91655), a government-accredited training organisation.
Our instructors are industry-experienced drivers who focus on the skills you need to get employed.
We’ve been helping Aussies learn to drive since 2007 – which is why 85% of our students pass on their first attempt.
Step 1
To apply for an MC licence, you must have held an HR or HC licence for at least 1 year.
Step 2
Talk to us to find out whether you’re ready to upgrade to an MC licence.
If you don’t feel confident, it can be better to get your HC licence first, build up your trailering experience, then complete an MC licence course later.
Step 3
Once you’re confident about your driving skills, contact us by phone, email or form to book your MC course.
Your course includes both theoretical and practical components, which means you won’t need to do a separate driving test with the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
Step 4
Your course will start at 6 am, beginning with a 3-hour theory block. Once you’ve completed your closed-book theory assessment, we’ll move onto practical training.
All practical training is completed in a one-on-one setting with an industry-experienced instructor. If you currently hold an HR licence, we’ll assess your driving to make sure you meet the required standard.
If you successfully complete your course, we’ll issue a certificate of attainment. You can then apply for your MC licence from any Transport and Main Roads service centre.
You’ll learn the skills you need for your licence at 5 Nolan Drive, Morayfield (around 45 minutes’ drive from Maroochydore).
It’s a purpose-built training facility operated by Major Training, one of Australia’s leading machinery course providers.

Operate linehaul and interstate routes anywhere across Australia.
Land a FIFO role in the mines that involves hauling raw materials from pit to port.
Combine your MC licence with a dangerous goods vehicle licence to move fuel, explosives, and other hazardous materials.
When you complete an MC licence course, you’ll receive a certificate of attainment with the same gearbox conditions as your current HR or HC licence. For example, if you hold an unrestricted HC licence, you’d get an unrestricted MC licence.
If you’d like to lift a gearbox restriction (for example, go from an automatic licence to a manual licence), ask us about adding extra training to your MC course. We’ll help you work out the best pathway based on your experience and career requirements.
Yes. Our training courses – which cover the competency unit Drive Multi-combination Vehicle (TLIC4006) – are delivered on behalf of Raise Training (RTO 91655). Raise is a government-accredited training organisation that’s approved to issue MC certificates of attainment.
Double-clutching is a gear-shifting technique you’ll need to know if you ever drive a non-synchromesh truck (like an Eaton with a Roadranger gearbox). A non-synchro gearbox doesn’t have a syncing mechanism, which means the driver needs to manually sync the engine’s RPMs with the drive shaft.
To double-clutch, half-compress the clutch, move the gear shifter to neutral, half-compress the clutch again, put it into gear. When you downshift, you’ll need to increase the revs while the clutch is in neutral to avoid grinding the gears. It’s the same principle as rev-matching in a manual car.
An MC licence lets you drive any road vehicle, of any weight, with 2 or more trailers. The type of gearbox you can operate depends on your licence restriction – an MC(A) licence, for example, only lets you drive automatic vehicles.
MC truck drivers normally make around $45 to $50 per hour. Some roles, like FIFO drivers, make much more – sometimes upwards of $150,000 without bonuses. Road train and long-haul driving routes (particularly in the mining sector) tend to pay the best.
Yes, you can. An MC licence lets you drive any road vehicle with any number of trailers.
