If you’ve held a C or LR licence for more than 2 years, you’re eligible for an HR licence.
The test requirements are almost identical – and you’ll have access to more, higher-paying job opportunities.
Our MC licence course is delivered on behalf of Raise Training (RTO 91655), a government-accredited training organisation.
Our instructors are industry-experienced drivers who focus on the skills you need to get employed.
We’ve been helping Aussies learn to drive since 2007 – which is why 85% of our students pass on their first attempt.
Just want to share a massive thanks to Chad, he trained me to beyond proficiency and I passed my MR first go without any critical errors.
He is so knowledgeable and explains things so thoroughly. I highly recommend Chad, this guy genuinely deserves a raise.
So easy to talk to as well. Great bloke! Thanks Chad, was a pleasure meeting you!! ☺️

Step 1
To apply for an MR licence, you must have held a C licence for at least one year.
Step 2
Talk to a driving school (like us) to find out what level of training you need to get your licence.
Some students with prior experience can refresh their skills and take their driving tests in as little as a day.
Others may need several lessons over a number of days.
Step 3
Once you’re confident about your driving skills, contact us by phone, email or form to book your driving test.
You can also book your test before your training if you’re doing one of our Licence in a Day courses.
If you don’t already have a heavy vehicle licence, you’ll need to book a knowledge test through TMR too. You’ll need to get 8 out of 10 multiple-choice questions right to pass.
Step 4
On the day of your test, make sure you bring your current C licence. (If you have a temporary licence, you’ll need extra identification.)
Expect your MR practical test to take 60 to 70 minutes.
You’ll learn the skills you need for your licence at 5 Nolan Drive, Morayfield (around 45 minutes’ drive from Maroochydore).
It’s a purpose-built training facility operated by Major Training, one of Australia’s leading machinery course providers.
Got my MR through these guys […] & it was a fantastic experience.
Duncan was a great instructor who put me at ease & directed well. Ladies in office made process easy too.
Highly recommend

A medium rigid licence is your gateway to a driving career.
Transport freight and conduct multi-drop runs around hubs like Noosa and Maroochydore.
Secure a waste management role with the Sunshine Coast council that includes wheelie bin collection and delivery.
A medium rigid licence makes it easier to land higher-paying jobs that involve a mix of warehouse work and deliveries.
Deliver materials to construction sites across the Sunshine Coast.
Double-clutching is a gear-shifting technique you’ll need to know if you ever drive a non-synchromesh truck (like an Eaton with a Roadranger gearbox). A non-synchro gearbox doesn’t have a syncing mechanism, which means the driver needs to manually sync the engine’s RPMs with the drive shaft.
To double-clutch, half-compress the clutch, move the gear shifter to neutral, half-compress the clutch again, put it into gear. When you downshift, you’ll need to increase the revs while the clutch is in neutral to avoid grinding the gears. It’s the same principle as rev-matching in a manual car.
Most students need 3 to 5 lessons to successfully pass their MR driving tests. Everyone is different, though. The easiest way to see how many you need is to book an introductory lesson with one of our drivers. They can then gauge your skillset and recommend a training plan.
Yes, you do. You can book and pay for your knowledge test at one of the Queensland government’s transport and motoring customer service centres. (There are 6 on the Sunshine Coast.)
To pass, you’ll need to get 8 out of 10 multiple choice questions right. As of August 2025, the test costs $28.70 (due on the day). Make sure you also bring proof of your identity.
Your full course fee will be due around 2 weeks before your start date. We’ll contact you when it’s time to pay.
If you can’t attend your course/lesson, please call or email to let us know. Keep in mind that, under our terms and conditions, you may not be entitled to a full refund if:
Yes, you can. If you already have your HR(A) licence, you can pass a driving test in a manual vehicle on any of your Queensland driver licences – including your C licence. Once that licence has been upgraded, you can apply to convert your HR(A) licence to an HR(B) without any further testing.
If your current licence has a medical condition listed, TMR may ask you to get a new medical certificate (form F3712) when you apply for an MR licence.
