Absolute fantastic HGV company and instructors. From the first phone call to Jo and the lessons with Jamie to sitting my test with the instructor.
All put me at ease and took away any stress and nerves. I’ve had 4 years driving HC in England but still would recommend this course to anyone having to resit their test upon entering Australia as couldn’t transfer my UK license over.
Brilliant company even if your new to the game. My advice is don’t waste your time with another company get yourself booked up with these super stars.
Really great bunch. Thanks to everyone awesome work 👌

Our MC licence course is delivered on behalf of Raise Training (RTO 91655), a government-accredited training organisation.
Our instructors are industry-experienced drivers who focus on the skills you need to get employed.
We’ve been helping Aussies learn to drive since 2007 – which is why 85% of our students pass on their first attempt.
Step 1
To apply for an HC licence, you must have held an MR or HR licence for at least 1 year.
Step 2
Talk to a driving school (like us) to find out what level of training you need to get your licence.
Some students with prior experience can refresh their skills and take their driving tests in as little as a day.
Others may need several lessons over a number of days.
Step 3
Once you’re confident about your driving skills, contact us by phone, email or form to book your driving test.
You can also book your test before your training if you’re doing one of our condensed training or Licence in a Day courses.
If you don’t already have a heavy vehicle licence, you’ll need to book a knowledge test through TMR too. You’ll need to get 8 out of 10 multiple-choice questions right to pass.
Step 4
On the day of your test, make sure you bring your current C licence. (If you have a temporary licence, you’ll need extra identification.)
Expect your HC practical test to take around 90 minutes.
You’ll learn the skills you need for your licence at 5 Nolan Drive, Morayfield (around 45 minutes’ drive from Maroochydore).
It’s a purpose-built training facility operated by Major Training, one of Australia’s leading machinery course providers.
Very professional and highly knowledgeable trainers.
I was made to feel very comfortable during the whole process of achieving my HC licence, highly recommended.

An HC licence gives you more, higher-paying options than an HR licence – ideal for a long-term driving career.
Transport freight between different towns and cities across Queensland.
Drive heavy combination vehicles between Queensland, New South Wales, and other parts of Australia.
Drive a truck-and-dog combination on large construction and civil works sites.
An HC licence can help you land high-paying driving roles at mines and quarries across Queensland.
Double-clutching is a gear-shifting technique you’ll need to know if you ever drive a non-synchromesh truck (like an Eaton with a Roadranger gearbox). A non-synchro gearbox doesn’t have a syncing mechanism, which means the driver needs to manually sync the engine’s RPMs with the drive shaft.
To double-clutch, half-compress the clutch, move the gear shifter to neutral, half-compress the clutch again, put it into gear. When you downshift, you’ll need to increase the revs while the clutch is in neutral to avoid grinding the gears. It’s the same principle as rev-matching in a manual car.
It depends where you are, what industry you’re in, and whether you’re salaried or casual. Salaried HC drivers make around $90,000 a year. Casual HC drivers are normally paid $40 to $50 per hour, with an average of $43 per hour.
Yes, you do. You can book and pay for your knowledge test at one of the Queensland government’s transport and motoring customer service centres. (There are 6 on the Sunshine Coast.)
To pass, you’ll need to get 8 out of 10 multiple choice questions right. As of August 2025, the test costs $28.70 (due on the day). Make sure you also bring proof of your identity.
It depends what HC licence you want. Upgrading from an HR licence with an A or B condition to an unrestricted HC licence, for example, normally takes 10 to 12 hours of lessons. That means you’d pay around $1,780 for your training and $700 for your test, which totals $2,480.
Getting your HC(A) or HC(B) licence is cheaper but can limit your opportunities. An unrestricted HC is, for most students, the best choice.
If you can’t attend your course/lesson, please call or email to let us know. Keep in mind that, under our terms and conditions, you may not be entitled to a full refund if:
If you take your driving test in an automatic or manual truck, you’ll get an HC(B) licence. Because you’ve already proven you can operate a manual gearbox, you don’t need to do the test itself in a manual vehicle.
If you want an unrestricted HC licence, though, you’ll need to pass in a vehicle with a non-synchromesh gearbox. (Once you’ve passed, though, you can get your unrestricted MC licence in an automatic vehicle. You don’t need to show you can drive a non-synchromesh gearbox again.)
If you live on the Sunshine Coast, we recommend getting an unconditional HC licence via hourly lessons. Our instructors can tailor their training to you, giving you the best chance of passing your practical test.
If you’re a FIFO worker with limited time, our condensed training course can also be a good option.
