Just completed my HR unrestricted licence with The Driving School. They were so good to deal with from start to finish.
Dealt with Jo in the office to help me sort things over a couple of calls. Tyson was my instructor, super helpful easy to talk to.
Explains things easily and was understanding of any faults. Jamie was my test instructor. Although I didn’t deal with him for as long as Tyson, he was clear in all directions. Calmed my nerves throughout the test as best he could.
Not sure if you can pick your instructors but if you get either of them you will be left feeling very confident. Thanks again Tyson and Jamie. If I decide to upgrade to MC in the future I’ll be definately booking with The Driving School.

Step 1
To apply for an LR or MR licence, you must have held a C licence for at least one year.
To apply for an HR licence, you must have held a C licence for at least 2 years.
To apply for an HC licence, you must have held an MR or HR licence for at least one year.
To apply for an MC licence, you must have held an HR or HC licence for at least one year.
Step 2
Talk to a driving school (like us) to find out what level of training you need to get your licence.
Some students with prior experience can refresh their skills and take their driving tests in as little as a day.
Others may need several lessons over a number of days.
Step 3
Once you’re confident about your driving skills, contact us by phone, email or form to book your driving test.
You can also book your test before your training if you’re doing one of our Licence in a Day courses.
If you don’t already have a heavy vehicle licence, you’ll need to book a knowledge test through TMR too. You’ll need to get 8 out of 10 multiple-choice questions right to pass.
Step 4
On the day of your test, make sure you bring your current licence. (If you have a temporary licence, you’ll need extra identification.)
Expect an LR practical test to take 25 to 35 minutes. MR and HR tests take around 60 to 70 minutes, and HC licences normally take 70 to 80 minutes.
I did the LR Licence in a day. Staff were great, took no time to book and they reminded me several times of the appointment.
I had Craig and he was awesome, very knowledgeable about the exam and examiners. He also gave me a lot a practical knowledge for driving these vehicles safely and was a friendly guy to talk to. I’d recommend him to anyone to get prepared for the driving exam.

A medium rigid (MR) truck licence is a heavy vehicle licence class. When you have an MR licence, you can drive any bus or truck over 8 tonnes GVM with up to 2 axles. You can also tow a trailer of up to 9 tonnes GVM.
Most students require 3 to 5 lessons before they feel confident enough to take their practical tests. To get an unrestricted licence, you may need around 10 to 12 hours of training to build up the skills you need. Keep in mind that everyone is different – you can have as many (or as few) lessons as you like.
Your full course fee will be due around 2 weeks before your start date. We’ll contact you when it’s time to pay.
If you can’t attend your course/lesson, please call or email to let us know. Keep in mind that, under our terms and conditions, you may not be entitled to a full refund if:
